Partnership

LASC has maintained its activities since 2000, with the mission of "proposing new perspectives for approaching built space from the perspective of culture and subjectivity".  As research continued, in the first decade of the 21st century, it became preponderant to observe the entirety of space from phenomena; value the “little things" of everyday life; and study the relationships between body and space in the social and spatial condition that surrounds us - which are the means to study urban environments. The attributes of environments appear in research through methods and strategies that allow the understanding of social identities, the functioning of urban memory, the layers of culture apprehension and the bonds of sociability and also the questioning of contemporary paradigms that put into play the body-space dynamics in the sensitive world.

Through ETHNOTOPOGRAPHY, a method coined by LASC based on the 2008 Universal Notice, it has been possible to develop the most diverse approaches, which materialize in books, theses, dissertations, articles and research products that are not restricted to academic libraries, but , extend their activities to the external community, such as the annual extension courses - promoted since 2012, and also the small and large events organized by LASC/UFRJ.
